Wine cork trivet

Hello and happy Tuesday!

Today I'm sharing a wine cork trivet that I made for a charity craft show a short while ago.

I took an old frame that the glass had broken in and I glued the corks to the cardboard backing.  The frame was gold and I spray painted it black and then sanded it to give it an aged look.

I figured my trivet could have two uses...the first being to display your wine bottles on when you're entertaining...or maybe just one bottle and a little plate with your grapes and cheese etc.

I love the assortment of different names and styles of the corks.

The other use I thought it would be nice for is for your hot casserole dishes.

The frame measured 18" x 7" so it's a nice size for your larger casseroles...or several bottles of wine.

Just look at all the cool corks!

The finished product!

Simply Sentiments challenge at Art Impressions

Hello Ai Fans!
We're in our second week of the Simply Sentiments challenge over at Art Impressions.
For my challenge card I chose to make a gender neutral baby card.  I work in a school so naturally there are a lot of young women there and LOTS of them have had babies in the 6 yrs. that I've worked there.  Even in this day and age when we're able to, some people are still choosing not to find out the sex of the baby so once in a while I like to make a card that's not pink or blue just in case!

I've actually used two graduation sets on my card.

After all...what's "huger" than a new baby!

Thinking of You

We just found out a few days ago that a friend of ours has breast cancer. NO ONE should ever have to go through that but it seems doubly unfair in this case because this woman just lost her husband to cancer 7 months ago. She's still recovering from that and then to be hit with this is just not right. I wanted to make an extra special card for her so that she knows we are here for her. I chose a butterfly because they are just so beautiful. I used the Bee wings from the Sizzix red die Bee & Ladybug. The body was done by doubling over a piece of wire and stringing it with various beads. When I reached the top I curled the wire to make the antennas. The frame behind the butterfly is another Sizzix red die and the insert was embossed with a Cuttlebug folder. The ovals around the Thinking of you phrase were all cut with Spellbinder's Nestabilities. I used various silk flowers, buttons, brads, ribbon and tulle to embellish the card. On the inside I used a plain cream piece of cardstock that I antiqued with Ranger inks. I used Antique Linen and Tattered Rose to give the paper an aged look. I then used a variety of foam and clear stamps to decorate around the phrase Wishing you blue skies and sunny days. The butterflies on the inside were done with punches. On the back of the card I used some nestablilites, a Marvy punch and a Martha Stewart border punch to make my signature extra special. I can only hope that this card gives her the slightest bit of comfort.
