Just before school ends each year they have an outdoor day. They have relay races, tug of war, bingo and a giant water slide. They break the students into 4 color groups in each grade and they tally all the scores at the end of the day and pick a winner. There are no prizes, just the satisfaction of knowing you won and then they all eat Popsicles as the scores are being announced. It was even more fun for me this year since I'm working at the school now. The only conflict was when my student Richard was in the tug of war against Dominick. I had to run back and forth and cheer for both of them. The kids look forward to this day for a long time. It was the first time that Dominick and Makena were on the same color team. No, they didn't win. Oh well! They had a ton of fun. Dominick is the one in the red #9 hat. Makena has on the white headband.
